TIANJIN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

TIANJIN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Founded in 1951, Tianjin Medical College emerged as a higher education medical institution sanctioned by the Chinese Government post-establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Its inception was spearheaded by Professor Chu Hsien-I, a globally esteemed endocrinologist and scholar. In June 1994, Tianjin Medical College amalgamated with Tianjin Second Medical College, birthing Tianjin Medical University (TMU). By December 1996, TMU distinguished itself as Tianjin’s sole local “211 Project” university. Fast forward to October 2015, TMU evolved into a collaborative effort between Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, the National Health Commission, and the Ministry of Education. By September 2017, TMU was honored as a “World First Class Discipline” development university, and by February 2022, it ascended to a “Double First Class” development university for the second time.

TMU is fervently committed to advancing medical higher education in China. It proudly stands as one of the pioneering two medical institutions in China authorized to conduct an eight-year pilot program, and among the first 15 institutions greenlit for a seven-year pilot program. Presently, the university spans two campuses located on Qixiangtai Road and Guangdong Road, along with seven affiliated hospitals. TMU encompasses 19 schools (departments) and an independent school, offering 21 undergraduate majors. The university hosts a total of 11,509 full-time students, including 5,517 undergraduates, 4,127 Master’s candidates, 1,188 Ph.D. aspirants, and 677 international scholars.
